It been thought of as just another fad or often mistaken as marijuana.

It’s known as the cannabis plant called Hemp.

“Hemp produces high levels of CBD with a very low level of THC and where marijuana produces high levels of THC with low levels of CBD,” Lisa Lee of Your CBD Store in Dothan said.

Dozens of farmers across Alabama can now plant hemp legally for the first time since 1937.

During the early week of May, farmers in Geneva County have been planting hemp as part of the state industrial hemp research pilot program.

In January, Alabama made guidelines for applying for a license to grow industrial hemp and since then hemp has become a profitable business.

Your CBD Store is just one of a few hemp stores in Dothan.

Manager of the store, Lisa Lee, says the plant helps alleviate stress and anxiety.

Personally, she says the products have helped her body heal from depression, OCD and chronic pain.

“I have been using the CBD oil.  July would be one year and I’m off of all of my pain medications,” Lee said.

“I’m off of all of my anti-depressants, sleep medication, my seizure medicine has been cut in half and my doctor is following my progress due to CBD,” Lee said.
